Just wanted to let everyone know I'm now on Etsy and have a Facebook business page. I've just listed a few items to start. My business name on both sites is: Princess Designs By Jan. Heres a link to etsy: <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/PrincessDesignsByJan">http://www.etsy.com/shop/PrincessDesignsByJan</a> <br />
I will eventually be offering all Ellie Inspired smocked dresses. Right now I just have Alice Blue and Sugar & Spice. I also am offering smocked princess socks. And let me tell you, these are so cute you won't be able to stand it!<br />
Now for some dumb reason, I'm having problems loading photos for this post. Hopefully, the problem will be resolved soon. I will post some pics soon. Until then, happy smocking everyone!<br />

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Well, here it is; the rainbow dress. Since the print is bright and a little on the busy side, I kept the smocking simple. It's just a baby wave, cable combo. And how do you like the button accents?! Adds a little flair w/o being too fussy.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I used "Wild At Heart" from AS&E for the pattern. The plate I made up myself. And btw, I started over 3 times on the smocking. I also took off 9 inches on the bottom of the skirt so that I could add a band along the bottom.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The ribbon sash is completely removable if the princess's mom wants to only wash the dress. The sash keepers are a detached buttonhole stitch. Now to get this dress and the previous one sent off to my friend so two little princesses can have some new dresses for xmas.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'm glad I didn't try to do more xmas dresses than what I did.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Next up is finishing the holly embroidered nightgown.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Did you all know Country Bumpkin is coming out with a new smocked party dress book next year. Yay! I need some new inspiration from them.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Happy smocking everyone!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It may not look like a simple dress, but it totally is!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhc4KpD_XTaiI-r0R9JeGLTpZ4LrLyNLHYrpWa7JyZY5OW7TDTbLuWrkT1tlxV8RX02i-M1Xbth8M4VBe80tnpFw0RQHiMfcyVx1lKUcD0xNQkRDBXRvkcM7AUP_KQDhjnVdPA6YxvYM8ch/s1600/100_1521.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhc4KpD_XTaiI-r0R9JeGLTpZ4LrLyNLHYrpWa7JyZY5OW7TDTbLuWrkT1tlxV8RX02i-M1Xbth8M4VBe80tnpFw0RQHiMfcyVx1lKUcD0xNQkRDBXRvkcM7AUP_KQDhjnVdPA6YxvYM8ch/s320/100_1521.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I only used two stitches, cables and baby waves. Small turquoise beads were added as I smocked. Just pick up a bead and take a stitch. The larger sparkly beads were added after smocking was done, just like you would if adding embroidery. Just make sure you double the knots on the back to assure them not coming off later. The princess who's getting this dress loves turquoise.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgj2mszVAQ1tJuwfHcFMV_Y62qaibISTBYnGEIdyjkR4_t_LWxkuUrvb66vlNcG9EFbTfS2hpPcrWFFgGnvWwEtpU1PG7bLq1GPFX-6XkY5bc0-j6dLgu22BoqQLv23S5Jp0uVGeN6Zud9g/s1600/100_1522.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgj2mszVAQ1tJuwfHcFMV_Y62qaibISTBYnGEIdyjkR4_t_LWxkuUrvb66vlNcG9EFbTfS2hpPcrWFFgGnvWwEtpU1PG7bLq1GPFX-6XkY5bc0-j6dLgu22BoqQLv23S5Jp0uVGeN6Zud9g/s320/100_1522.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I decided to not make a traditional belt. I think it's more fun, something a little different. Now, I'm off to the fabric store to get fabric for this princess's little sister. She says rainbow is her fave color. So, a rainbowish print it is!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Keep watch over the next few weeks, as I will be starting smocking tutorials. I will be posting them in my new Smocking Tutorial at the top of the page.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Til later, happy smocking everyone!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's another pattern being tested for Ellie Inspired. It's a new nightgown. This is totally what a princess would wear to bed don't you think?! (oops, like like it's hanging a little wonky on the hanger.)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0vR8iKRBKhq1KSEKvdotEr7lw1sxXdAqCENUeiEDVQPZWm1OzY96guAr_hSk-edmLNHmF_0SLH_INGZq-e8tj5DLlN1Fpq0Uflbxpyw6uowNNCuEpaOvzmzcQA6Tnyhw3hpxWe-Jb7Wc0/s1600/100_1515.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0vR8iKRBKhq1KSEKvdotEr7lw1sxXdAqCENUeiEDVQPZWm1OzY96guAr_hSk-edmLNHmF_0SLH_INGZq-e8tj5DLlN1Fpq0Uflbxpyw6uowNNCuEpaOvzmzcQA6Tnyhw3hpxWe-Jb7Wc0/s320/100_1515.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's a view of the back. The buttons look kind of yellow, but they are just an off white.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhL0FqqnvIF_CHbi_V2ucGdXxDR5NXj1EomFtN_OT3qRVzgVNWoFsipFpxOJTUR3HeGSRHlAm5G0Rdx7Cpyr2pBup8BwJxcQELgwzytjTk-oL81_d-jPqEoMFuob7qvw5r-jnt4XnLvnvtH/s1600/100_1505.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhL0FqqnvIF_CHbi_V2ucGdXxDR5NXj1EomFtN_OT3qRVzgVNWoFsipFpxOJTUR3HeGSRHlAm5G0Rdx7Cpyr2pBup8BwJxcQELgwzytjTk-oL81_d-jPqEoMFuob7qvw5r-jnt4XnLvnvtH/s320/100_1505.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The nightgown pattern doesn't have any smocking instructions, but I decided to add that. I looked through some of my plates, but didn't find anything I liked. So I made up my own. The diamonds are 6-step trellis with 7cables in between. I love the little rosebuds on the bottom row scallops!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicykx_c7X_gl3jJF_hjFWhpRVufNr85_gGdHvH_-ywNhgaP7fcvkDBPNPZ1tEeCG59aom-KqrWPjw5M4U-wFHrxbGS5nPSlqfcJ3_kZGoCIpHd4hbRfu5TKOXqgCQbSnLRSW9zRriMQ6Td/s1600/100_1499.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicykx_c7X_gl3jJF_hjFWhpRVufNr85_gGdHvH_-ywNhgaP7fcvkDBPNPZ1tEeCG59aom-KqrWPjw5M4U-wFHrxbGS5nPSlqfcJ3_kZGoCIpHd4hbRfu5TKOXqgCQbSnLRSW9zRriMQ6Td/s320/100_1499.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's the sleeve before I sewed the gown up. The smocking is a simple trellis. When adding lace to the bottom of your sleeves; you will need to flatten out the pleats before doing any smocking. After lace is added, pull your pleats back up to the desired width.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMYkf8FJp5F2XceBZFWuL3HvWC6e_ztKtH8D5IcfIonC8TOnVAyEPDcdrl4urd3dfm_2Do3Nr0rnRTMEOPYwmbqFnZbR4geTgyMNo1r_0ite6KcKpJwzGJ0EYF2C-AYujd19QiNRqv-C6J/s1600/100_1516.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMYkf8FJp5F2XceBZFWuL3HvWC6e_ztKtH8D5IcfIonC8TOnVAyEPDcdrl4urd3dfm_2Do3Nr0rnRTMEOPYwmbqFnZbR4geTgyMNo1r_0ite6KcKpJwzGJ0EYF2C-AYujd19QiNRqv-C6J/s320/100_1516.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's sneak peak of another nightgown I'm using with the same pattern. The next part I need to get done is some shadow embroidery. I'm going to use holly leaves on the bodice and around the bottom of the skirt. This gown will have long sleeves.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You may have noticed I now have tabs at the top of my page. I've decided to put my tutorials up there. Just learned how to add pages to my blog. I'm not very literate with computers. But I wanted everyone to be able to have as much fun with their creations as I do. I will be doing tutorials for smocking as soon as I get some time. Hahaha, am I just kidding myself. Actually, I will make time for these tutorials.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Happy smocking everyone!</div>

The hem is madeira and kind of a challenge with the satin I used. If you are new heirloom, I would say use cotton. The white is cotton sateen from Fine Stitchery. Everything Laura says about it true. It's my favorite fabric to smock/sew with.</div>

I have to say Laura really flattered me in her blog post today! It makes me want to be friends with "me". My wish is that all you readers have a friend as sweet as Laura. She's a wonderful designer. I'm always anxious to see what she will dream up next for us to sew.</div>

Here's another dress from the same Sugar & Spice pattern. Oops, looks like the collar was up when I snapped the pic. I can say that it doesn't do that in real life. Today I will be finishing the hem and buttonholes on this dress. Then I need to get going on some xmas dresses I started as gifts a couple months ago for a friends two daughters. After that I will doing some smocking tutorials.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Till next time, happy smocking everyone!</div>

Sorry I'm late with this blog post, I was way too tired yesterday.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This I one of the dress patterns I tested for Laura at Ellie Inspired. Isn't it fun for xmas?! I made a size 3 out of flannel. I'm going to give it to my friend, Jerri for her granddaughter. The same little princess I made the Tinkerbelle costume for.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The smock plate is an easy one to accomplish. The buttons I found at Walmart, but try any craft store or scrapbook store. The different scrapbook stores in Boise have lots of things that those who sew will use to embellish cute clothes with. You'll notice I did double piping at the waist. I thought it needed to have that little of something extra.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Here's an up close shot of the upper bodice and the collar. I can see that I need to lower the right-hand button just a tad. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
At the cuff I decided to use giant ricrac. I thought it would be cute to maybe stitch tiny buttons on the the ricrac points. It's cute without the buttons.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's a view of the back of the dress. I chose to put a belt on instead of a sash. The ribbon at the bottom of the skirt had wire in it and I took that out. I stitched more of the giant ricrac to the top and bottom of the ribbon. Cute, right?!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMbrrozrdPrsn4l2bbyVnRbWUdciRZgJCky8fJg1wWVEgWceJClsjOkYsKLmZkhZKkYmkFPom8dVpPO8bZ575n24QgF6tyKPwkbDcCu8tiZKo4iel4MEbl5ganRnDkql3HziSlNyPinI2G/s1600/Holly.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMbrrozrdPrsn4l2bbyVnRbWUdciRZgJCky8fJg1wWVEgWceJClsjOkYsKLmZkhZKkYmkFPom8dVpPO8bZ575n24QgF6tyKPwkbDcCu8tiZKo4iel4MEbl5ganRnDkql3HziSlNyPinI2G/s1600/Holly.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And here's the original dress Laura designed. Isn't it the sweetest, dreamiest dress?! And her daughter as the model is darling. I'm going to HAVE to make one like this for spring. One of the other testers, Angela did the most outstanding job on this dress. She was lamenting all the bullion roses, 81 I think, that she needed to stitch. But look at the statement this dress makes. All those bullions were worth it in the end. She is definitely an expert at them now.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The other dress I tested, "Sugar & Spice" is due to be released. I can't wait to see how Miss Ellie looks in it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Happy smocking everyone!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I decided it was time for a tutorial. I'm one of the pattern testers for Ellie Inspired. A few girls in the group have never made piping. That got me thinking about how many other ladies might want to learn how. I'm not claiming to be an expert, but this is how I make piping and hopefully I can explain it well enough that any who want to learn can do so. I don't like putting the regular maxi-piping you find in the Wright's brand tapes into kids clothing. It's just too big. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
There is also continuous bias, but I can never get the hang of understanding it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So anyway, here we go with making mini-piping:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCXTpaPz15pOS_hYQ_9vE_okRBUkR4V9ghvtddJL_x83xzCPZqtrR9PRbukC_p4YYnlfLmjxHX8Dln0Lq6AoL2GuYBEZtBaV1LdFaP0SKsAnvprFbbov0xezOPbvyXI4KoO6ppnF2jbtMk/s1600/100_1431.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCXTpaPz15pOS_hYQ_9vE_okRBUkR4V9ghvtddJL_x83xzCPZqtrR9PRbukC_p4YYnlfLmjxHX8Dln0Lq6AoL2GuYBEZtBaV1LdFaP0SKsAnvprFbbov0xezOPbvyXI4KoO6ppnF2jbtMk/s320/100_1431.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<strong>Step 1:</strong></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I always use a self-healing mat, rotary cutter and ruler. I've squared up my fabric and I do have two layers her on the mat. My ruler has a 45* line and I've lined that up with the straight line on the mat. Since I'm left-handed, I will cut on the top of the ruler. If you are right-handed, you can move the ruler so it is headed in the opposite direction.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
(If you've never used a rotary cutter, it's VERY sharp. Please practice on some scrap fabric first. We don't want to have anyone going to the emergency room to get stitches. I don't even want to think about that; it makes me cringe. So please be extra careful and always have the blade in the protected position when on cutting.)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMPWIuvUiQiCMHWdv4z5uLpaMjdQ14KRUnpRwRlI0qrC84532NWCr0K8Lh28MYmDOUedI2u1WFfW322vTQJBrCVse4Ivs6mc9VFCPmD_lcMYJGXeGTWeekIxEZvcQU8R0VVRRSfCor3ww5/s1600/100_1432.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMPWIuvUiQiCMHWdv4z5uLpaMjdQ14KRUnpRwRlI0qrC84532NWCr0K8Lh28MYmDOUedI2u1WFfW322vTQJBrCVse4Ivs6mc9VFCPmD_lcMYJGXeGTWeekIxEZvcQU8R0VVRRSfCor3ww5/s320/100_1432.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<strong>Step 2:</strong></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I moved the remainder of my fabric aside. Turn your fabric so the it looks like a side facing triangle. This edge is the "true" bias. If it's not on the true 45* line, it can wavy bumps in it when you go to fold over. I have the ruler lined up to cut 1 1/2 inch strips. You can thinner strips, but I'd rather cut slightly fatter strips and cut my piping afterwards.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A note about my ruler: I like using the Olfa brand as it has yellow lines that are easier for me to see both light and dark fabrics. It is also 6 inches wide and allows me to put my non-cutting hand flat on the ruler so it doesn't slip. There is also non-skid rulers, dots you an adhere to the bottom of your own rulers or film you can put to the bottom of the ruler. All these items will help the ruler to stay put.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9BfoPVD6MO2G5Pw32drwfs_ZZQBpyomyEwNhAee1ahsAbmyI0Zof6-WzDYPWCjIU3RTe3_T7EgvgxslUlrsyiAzWI-ROQA12eIWLHSw773VoK-U4iPQOXKinF8JEcI_3zTz3ytRdRvJOr/s1600/100_1433.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9BfoPVD6MO2G5Pw32drwfs_ZZQBpyomyEwNhAee1ahsAbmyI0Zof6-WzDYPWCjIU3RTe3_T7EgvgxslUlrsyiAzWI-ROQA12eIWLHSw773VoK-U4iPQOXKinF8JEcI_3zTz3ytRdRvJOr/s320/100_1433.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here are actually 6 strips waiting to be sewn together.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I cut two layers of fabric, right-sides facing out.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfhc2RdkrBVsArqC9R7dpzkRqIcqpoL614sVfdosa3ULSMtlmQ6fqZh8aq6txSGYGjd5czZYfyN22cO9tCqOzBxft3owR6nUllABM5wo6cG-z33MubN5aN7oUbftwlFjKQHgWnR4Ia-sM6/s1600/100_1435.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfhc2RdkrBVsArqC9R7dpzkRqIcqpoL614sVfdosa3ULSMtlmQ6fqZh8aq6txSGYGjd5czZYfyN22cO9tCqOzBxft3owR6nUllABM5wo6cG-z33MubN5aN7oUbftwlFjKQHgWnR4Ia-sM6/s320/100_1435.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<strong>Step 4:</strong></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You'll see that the bottom strip is facing up and the top strip is facing down. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I've lined up the diagonal sides together.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8lss9TmvrUq3_0w3zvudwgpypx_275gN4qA11DwhfH6BLdwowSHQsPuQXV3S94mwW-yMZrs5pYY8td3Cal4I0Mz1rtWIoi1LxPWO0zLHFq0_7MagCqcXD1Jiyb8VIp45laUgv1uoEo96f/s1600/100_1437.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8lss9TmvrUq3_0w3zvudwgpypx_275gN4qA11DwhfH6BLdwowSHQsPuQXV3S94mwW-yMZrs5pYY8td3Cal4I0Mz1rtWIoi1LxPWO0zLHFq0_7MagCqcXD1Jiyb8VIp45laUgv1uoEo96f/s320/100_1437.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's a pic with the diagonal line going the opposite direction. I will usually do 1/4 inch seams.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You can make them bigger if you want and trim them down afterward.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I wanted to show what happens when the diagonal lines don't line up.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It's okay, cuz you can just trim it off after you've stitched the seam. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<strong>Step 5:</strong></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Next is pressing the seams.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8PBvq0Is9WfsayNQNFCVeOoYY_gTiPcdQh8LFcuYVov6POp8HKYSDLFchqWaJbL7QSlTmTnQ_D9OzINdMbVCCKDOIO3H7rS_tIeYmPcUAH_JlLQbcNtjWhP1LKtp4w9l9iXPI79Q00k5r/s1600/100_1440.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8PBvq0Is9WfsayNQNFCVeOoYY_gTiPcdQh8LFcuYVov6POp8HKYSDLFchqWaJbL7QSlTmTnQ_D9OzINdMbVCCKDOIO3H7rS_tIeYmPcUAH_JlLQbcNtjWhP1LKtp4w9l9iXPI79Q00k5r/s320/100_1440.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is the cording I use to put inside my piping. This is less expensive than the poly cording and since the cording will be "floating" inside the bias; I don't care if it shrinks a little bit.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Just make sure it says "worsted weight" on the skein of cotton.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYHF4Wh5rF9hdsA0SpCQ6_RhGOBEBpWGDAPDxM5wvct5Kj8Faw7Vhrr1g0oT5Lxp73brjOxhy16UvbQ8TtJaoV6LWCWQkn6XiX14ROMYHOIXx3hhP04DcHskILjbv3UUHEEd7-cA4jnAJA/s1600/100_1443.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYHF4Wh5rF9hdsA0SpCQ6_RhGOBEBpWGDAPDxM5wvct5Kj8Faw7Vhrr1g0oT5Lxp73brjOxhy16UvbQ8TtJaoV6LWCWQkn6XiX14ROMYHOIXx3hhP04DcHskILjbv3UUHEEd7-cA4jnAJA/s320/100_1443.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
If you have a piping foot to your machine use that, but since I don't; I use a foot that has a little groove on the bottom. It makes sewing it easier to snug your needle up to the cording when it's inside the bias.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgP4RXEqeEM5jG24-dMM5aKVHnj10pJbwEy3k7yrCSYXoawcQ1fAD_p7C5qRBRyv6ccPfnuOdTGDT51ZbfeiTBae5qMWy468CmhTkouR6o-jwe4zOu2a7WeQbGZPgv_42fxftzKB656wdq-/s1600/100_1446.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgP4RXEqeEM5jG24-dMM5aKVHnj10pJbwEy3k7yrCSYXoawcQ1fAD_p7C5qRBRyv6ccPfnuOdTGDT51ZbfeiTBae5qMWy468CmhTkouR6o-jwe4zOu2a7WeQbGZPgv_42fxftzKB656wdq-/s320/100_1446.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I have a button on the top of my machine I can lessen the tension the presser foot applies to my piping. I have mine set to 3/4.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHqKO_Ny1x1wrT9cMWf8QPoa7LxbtfR4D-5heyx0Cyqda_jVj8t4o63h3XzBMivqZVBcARnTsAzQ29FxxCut_tJ99CXwv7bh_FbLrO9cb5zO9mnFM67OiLznFAqYe4a9FkWvka4Q3ka8QJ/s1600/100_1449.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHqKO_Ny1x1wrT9cMWf8QPoa7LxbtfR4D-5heyx0Cyqda_jVj8t4o63h3XzBMivqZVBcARnTsAzQ29FxxCut_tJ99CXwv7bh_FbLrO9cb5zO9mnFM67OiLznFAqYe4a9FkWvka4Q3ka8QJ/s320/100_1449.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<strong>Step 6:</strong></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Fold the bias in half and put the cording inside. You will notice it is now about 5/8" wide.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I will trim it down to approx. 1/2" wide before I sew it into a project.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilQRxhkR_59sOJg0yBY_B4UyFPLaWrhkSR2G6kGem4afCbj-u31KfdyL1NDni2IxIv6ngc4m3ntzLqb0YBGPZkOLO6gQ0Jssi3Y7gRlmPxkCKWd3YnSLe0xmFEf4cslyM9eo174jJ1_4g1/s1600/100_1452.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilQRxhkR_59sOJg0yBY_B4UyFPLaWrhkSR2G6kGem4afCbj-u31KfdyL1NDni2IxIv6ngc4m3ntzLqb0YBGPZkOLO6gQ0Jssi3Y7gRlmPxkCKWd3YnSLe0xmFEf4cslyM9eo174jJ1_4g1/s320/100_1452.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
After you are done, you will see there are these little tags, trim those off, they are just a nuisance.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUqMptliyYSZvOKjC5cjgnujnJ4r6BE0119WrEl0Q0CTkRsaIBo9vkL-0AUkQM2ziavDp8pRQNLuE9YSUqK0lQb8ztVAGfXiUcqqdNSjVe8mWXsfvFImm-lE_d1lgvCOPX4PyNVtRT1bs5/s1600/100_1456.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUqMptliyYSZvOKjC5cjgnujnJ4r6BE0119WrEl0Q0CTkRsaIBo9vkL-0AUkQM2ziavDp8pRQNLuE9YSUqK0lQb8ztVAGfXiUcqqdNSjVe8mWXsfvFImm-lE_d1lgvCOPX4PyNVtRT1bs5/s320/100_1456.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<strong>Step 7:</strong></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The next thing I do before I stitch the piping in is pull out about 5/8" of cording, cut it off and then tug on the opposite side and the remaining cord will slide back into the bias. I always cut off at the beginning and end so I can avoid a big lump at those two ends when I sew the collar onto the neck.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhU1_UEAvVSr_Fni7shA_tb61gbkxj5_a0Qqa5IbZaG1cm4zfKumDNgqkuijVtYuHs0QZ6DUn8apM3dyOPMcL4CtLfB24c_otjAi5Dab6hERg8_EPk3FkEYIqVY-Bsqk-4k0_BZqbo9EamD/s1600/100_1461.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhU1_UEAvVSr_Fni7shA_tb61gbkxj5_a0Qqa5IbZaG1cm4zfKumDNgqkuijVtYuHs0QZ6DUn8apM3dyOPMcL4CtLfB24c_otjAi5Dab6hERg8_EPk3FkEYIqVY-Bsqk-4k0_BZqbo9EamD/s320/100_1461.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And last of all, make sure you clip your piping about every 1/2 inch or so before you stitch to curves. It will go much easier. Just be careful to not clip too close to the cording as you will end up cutting the stitching line.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I hope this was easy to understand for you and that you will try making your own piping.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Soon I'll be able to show you the dress this is going on. It's another of Ellie Inspired patterns. She is releasing a new one each day on her sight. The first two are so darn cute you should check it out.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Happy smocking!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Yep Laura at Ellie Inspired is having her annual xmas week, only this year she's expanded it to 12 days! She has tons of giveaways and there is a blog hop. And best of all, new patterns! There are two dresses I'm most excited about. One is the pattern I've been testing, "Sugar & Spice". I finished that up a couple days ago and I have to say that it turned out beautiful!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The second dress I'm looking forward to seeing on a princess is, "Holly". The lady who tested it, Angela, embroidered dozens of buillion roses on this dress. I'll be doing a post of those two patterns when they come out. And I hope everyone will stop buy Ellie Inspired for the 12 days of Christmas. This extravaganza is going to start on November 10th. Here's a link for you <a href="http://www.ellieinspired.com/">www.ellieinspired.com</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Until later, happy smocking everyone!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's the costume I made for my friend, Jerri's granddaugher, Princess I. Isn't she absolutely the cutest?!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Jerri's wrists have been in braces for a couple months, she has "Mother's Wrist". So she came to me a few weeks ago and asked if I would like to make Tinkerbelle. Of course, I said yes.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Even after all the petals, which felt like I was making dozens and dozens, I'm so happy I helped Jerri out, cuz Princess I made one darn cute Tinkerbelle!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcyAt9F3I46JiRP8CChvLkq1snbPzVFeHqKuTvw52kYtMsoYqgCC_kn62mUqBLGHOf3MxQUol3gvsUBPyXa98fQGZZjLfU9uk0FXQsj1_KRSYJo-sjgbzcYUUQwA96KFDxOcImAkQ_zCwQ/s1600/100_1398.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcyAt9F3I46JiRP8CChvLkq1snbPzVFeHqKuTvw52kYtMsoYqgCC_kn62mUqBLGHOf3MxQUol3gvsUBPyXa98fQGZZjLfU9uk0FXQsj1_KRSYJo-sjgbzcYUUQwA96KFDxOcImAkQ_zCwQ/s320/100_1398.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Yes, we are at Hancock's and everyone who saw Princess thought she was the cutest Tinkerbelle.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
In a few days, when I get a little more done with the pattern I'm testing, I will share with you what it looks like. It's coming along nicely.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I've also got to get started on the mystery sampler that Adorable Heirlooms has got going on. First I need some fabric. And no I don't have the right print. I want a print, but something that is a pastel and a very subtle pattern.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Till next time, happy smocking everyone!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This is a dress I made a few years ago for a friend's daughter. The current princess wearing it in this pic is her younger daughter, Princess R. Isn't she the cutest? My friend, Rana, says her is her daughter's favorite and wears this dress at least once a week. I'd have to say it looks as nice as the day I finished it. I asked a few weeks ago what this princess' favorite color is and she told mom . . . rainbow. I suppose that means I can do whatever I want. How nice is that!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This past week I've been sick. First I get a cold which then turns into pneumonia. After a couple days of antibiotics then it decided to be bronchitis. Finally I feel like doing a little sewing again instead of just thinking about sewing. I don't like having to curb my smocking. That does not make me happy, but seeing cute a cute little girl in a smocked dress does!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'm going into pattern testing mode this afternoon.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Happy smocking everyone!</div>

What a busy month I've had! I've managed to finish 3 dresses for the Adorable Heirlooms stash challenge. I'm wondering what the other participants came up with. Everything I used in these two dresses I'm sharing came out of my stash.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
After stitching the dress together, I wish I had piped the bottom of the insert. But I'm thinking that my hairdresser's granddaughter will not care that I didn't add piping to that area. I looked thru some of my AS&E, but didn't find the exact smock plate I wanted, so I kind of went out on a limb. The three center diamonds are made with Swarofski crystals. Then two side diamonds are made using read sead beads.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I decided to use organza for a skirt border and the ties. I love how it makes a big poufy bow without the huge knot. I made this dress a size 8. I used the same pattern for this dress as I did for the previous dress, The Little Seamstress.</div>

This dress had been waiting for about 5 years for me to finish it. Everything was done except the hem and the buttonholes. I can't remember what pattern from AS&E that I used. This is a size 18 months.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The person I was going to give this dress to five years ago kept pestering me about it and so you can see that I didn't finish it in time for them to have it. I had told someone I would make a dress if I had enough time. Well, we got busy at Hancock's and it never got finished. I guess that goes to show that rude behavior doesn't get you anywhere. I hope she treats people much nicer than she did me. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I added the trim as an afterthought. I only had enough to do the front of the dress. It was an old trim from my lace bag. I sewed it on with a stretch zigzag.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I love using soft colors and tiny prints for babies. I think it lets the baby be the star as they should be. Well, I'm already thinking of my next project. Such are the pitfalls of a creative mind. I wouldn't have it any other way!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Actually, my next project is a model garment to hang up at Hancock's. It's from the Fleece Idea book that is free to all who want one. I'm making a little girl's fleece coat. It will be pink with lime green buttons and lime rickrack trim on the collar and possibly the cuffs as well. But you know the problems of designing, sometimes we have to change things up. I will probably sew the coat up tomorrow. But then again, maybe I will get my instructions tomorrow for pattern testing. I've seen a preliminary design and it's wonderful. So here's hoping I will be able to start on it soon!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Happy stitching everyone!</div>

This is not one of my creations, but would be something I would totally do. It belongs to a good friend, Susan. A few months ago she found me on Facebook and asked if I would help her with her grandbaby's blessing dress. Well, I of course, had to say yes. Through many emails, a surprise phone call and some trial and error; she finished her first smocking project. I have to say she did fantastic! She has given me permission to post photos for all to see. I'm so very proud of her and the wonderful dress she made. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You probably noticed an extra close spaced button. The reason I stitched it on is because the mom of the princess who is getting this dress is no so much of a sewist, more of a crafter. I didn't want her to be searching for an extra button if she needed one. I'm thinking that I should move it to just above the hem band. I don't want to move it anywhere princess will feel it and be uncomfortable. We'll see what the princess' mom says tomorrow when I give it to her.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So is everyone busy sewing during National Sewing Month? I'm getting lots of smocked dress fronts done. I'm going to be doing more pattern testing for Laura at Ellie Inspired. Pink will be involved, but that's all I'm going to tell you right now.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Happy smocking!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I think Miss Ahnalin looks divine in the dress I made for her! Makes me kind of wish my daughter was still of the age to make smocked stuff for. Alas, they grow up too quickly. I will just have to settle for making things for friends little princesses.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Speaking of friends daughters, my favorite checker at the grocery store told her daughter asked if she could wear her dress everyday. Mom said no, we do have to wash it. I told her I would make her more dresses. What better endorsement could I ask for.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I went to a baby shower Sunday and yes I did take smocked baby items. I didn't get the shoes quite finished, but did give a couple of dresses, a bonnet, some hair bows and a bunch of socks decorated with smocking. Can I brag and say mine was the prettiest gift? The only other person who sewed anything was great gramma-to-be. Almost makes me feel like sewing is a dieing art. I love when I hear of a customer who is going to teach her daughter or granddaughter to sew. But especially love it when we have a young sewist at Hancock's where I work, sign up to get her own mailer to use the coupons. Those girls don't come along very often.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Adorable Heirlooms on Facebook is having a Stash Challenge. If you haven't liked her page yet, go do it and get involved. Whoever makes the most items from their stash will win a gift card to use on the website. I'd say I better get sewing!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Happy smocking everyone!</div>

Anyone else get tired of picking names for their blog posts? I know I do. I'm not a writer, I'm a smocker and a sewist. Anyway, on to smocking.</div>

Here's some pics of one of my fair entries. I made this dress for my friend, Sivje, to give to Princess Ahnalin.</div>

Here's a close-up of the smocking and you can see the crystals I added in. I used a smock plate from issue 26 "Titania". I had wanted there to be puffing in between the rows of smocking, but didn't add extra rows between. It still turned out beautiful.</div>

Sorry the sash is wonky. I had just got home from collecting my items from the fair, but I wanted to post some pics for you. Fabric is from Hancocks. And I did use any AS&E pattern.</div>

This is a little jacket to go with a dress. I tea-stained the white fabric using P&G Tips tea. I think I should have photographed it with a white hanger.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I am going to brag on myself a little bit. Here's a pic with all my ribbons and plaques. This is the first year the fair has had a wooden plaque made to give to recipient. Past years it's just been a piece of printed cardstock. The plaque is the "Clothing and Textile Award". The purple ribbon goes with it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'm pretty happy with myself. As you can see off to the left side of this pic, I'm already to smocking another dress. I'm going to stitch the cover dress from issue 99. It's such a sweet dress!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Happy smocking!</div>

<div align="center">
First of all, I have to say thank you to everyone who left such sweet, lovely comments on my last post. I appreciate every one of them. You are a kind bunch of gals! Here's what I finished today to share with all of you.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbvgZlxJ7rq7btnhYFawistPgIpB8KQyMBUWO5F7YzCsyDr-1Jrsm408QWbL9hCAu0TZuO-OKnq7AlZjCKpodX0cXuIINfLxoUYrMaJDADQcp4J_N8qUoXlTOLkzDYqbbwoBp_0ix3VHB6/s1600/100_1315.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbvgZlxJ7rq7btnhYFawistPgIpB8KQyMBUWO5F7YzCsyDr-1Jrsm408QWbL9hCAu0TZuO-OKnq7AlZjCKpodX0cXuIINfLxoUYrMaJDADQcp4J_N8qUoXlTOLkzDYqbbwoBp_0ix3VHB6/s320/100_1315.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Yes there is another hanger in the pic just behind the Cinderella dress. The first set of pics I took looked blurry. This didn't turn out so bad, but I realize I forgot to remove the other hanger.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I can't remember what pattern out of AS&E that I used, but you can use any that fits the princess you are sewing for. Just remember to add in seam allowances above and below the insert and also on the front bodice. I can see that my collar isn't as perfect as I want it to be. But I think I'm the only one who is going to care about that.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhskNPfn1dFnPwwpBQ31TDrZjsOBYL2fU7GOI2zn0CdLwXcMun9K-r5soOw0bXp9FyEMp_z2diyDleen93uy1E0wVHSiXple7YIeC6y3AYIVBShjunzjqQ4zLOidOtVEGns6QUzdJIMrocC/s1600/100_1313.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhskNPfn1dFnPwwpBQ31TDrZjsOBYL2fU7GOI2zn0CdLwXcMun9K-r5soOw0bXp9FyEMp_z2diyDleen93uy1E0wVHSiXple7YIeC6y3AYIVBShjunzjqQ4zLOidOtVEGns6QUzdJIMrocC/s320/100_1313.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I think next time I should use a different collar, but since this dress is going to be for dress up, it doesn't matter as much. I went to get buttons this evening and chatted with my friend who's getting the dress for her daughter. I said maybe she won't have to get a separate costume for her daughter this year for Halloween. Just add a tiara and some sparkly princess shoes and you're ready to go.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6kSujzDa7BMw0YIoy_PLZ7Z_hOpRRxYTfnTwJTky1Jl29yjvrbOW2amGB1ED2FVXIt9mEANb0nFbmI2MD2SNJW9BAyiIn9nB0B9vp0I1ZSTQSR6yNHgX2_2NXZt-RQNzsKh6aiWKHDdZ2/s1600/100_1314.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6kSujzDa7BMw0YIoy_PLZ7Z_hOpRRxYTfnTwJTky1Jl29yjvrbOW2amGB1ED2FVXIt9mEANb0nFbmI2MD2SNJW9BAyiIn9nB0B9vp0I1ZSTQSR6yNHgX2_2NXZt-RQNzsKh6aiWKHDdZ2/s320/100_1314.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I got the fabric at Hancocks and on the insert stitched in beads and also used some blending filament.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I finished smocking an insert a couple days ago for an xmas dress to give to my hairdresser's granddaughter who I just found out has a form of epilepsy. She is a quiet, shy girl and I feel happy to make dresses for her. It's a red print with snowflakes on it. Hopefully I will have it finished this weekend and be able to share another creation with you.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Happy smocking!</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Yep, ribbons galore at the fair!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
In this pic, mine is the white smocked doll dress in the center. Ribbon was for "Best of Division" Doll Clothes. The first place ribbon is covered up. At the right of my dress is a crocheted victorian doll. I chatted with the lady who made her. She got a special award. Isn't she beautiful?! And at the bottom of the pic is some black bobbin lace. I have to say I think those can make bobbin lace are amazing. I don't think I could keep all those bobbins straight. I would always be wondering "now where am I at again". </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This dress won "Best of Division" Special Occasion Sewing. Also got a special award. For what exactly, I don't know. I'll probably find out when I pic up my stuff. There were a couple of puckers on the scalloped hem. Maybe the judges were overwhelmed with all the beads I stitched in, not sure. I'll post a better photo after I pick it up in a couple weeks. But I'm not about to argue with the judges. I'll take the ribbons and run! I used an AS&E pattern originally designed by Gail Doane. I just love her designs.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br />Here's my fish dress with a "Best of Division" Casual Sewing. First place ribbon for "Simple Dress" is covered up. Simple dress to the judges meant no zippers or button openings, just elastic.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />Here's the ensemble I entered in the "Ensemble" Casual Sewing and received a blue ribbon. The jacket is from an eyelet I tea-stained to match the dress.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br />And here's my "Casual Dress" sewing with a blue ribbon for my red button dress. This dress was one of my more favorite ones I entered. Although, I do love all my creations.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br />Second place "Party Dress" Special Occasion Sewing. You can't see them very well, but I did add crystals into the smocking. Again, I will post better pics after pick up day.</div>

<br />First place "Blouse" Casual Sewing. I love the lady bugs on this blouse. I'm happy they hung the blouse with the buttons down the back. Sometimes the volunteers aren't sure what is the back or front of a garment.</div>

<br />First place "Any Item of Merit" Special Occasion Sewing. I have to say, I really hate how this bonnet is displayed. But I do know that the ladies who do the displays for the fair have tons of work to do. So on that note they are forgiven. Maybe next time I need to bring it on a doll that is for display only.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This quilt was made by my best friend, Marie. She got second place on her quilt. Yay Marie!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'd love to read what the judges said about some of my entries. I received a package in the mail a couple days ago from Hoffman Fabrics. It was my prize of 7 yds of fabric. There were 1 yard cuts in two coord. groups. I will definitely be making something from those beautiful prints. I also received a signed letter from the president of Hoffman Fabrics, which I didn't expect. I have been wearing a special pin sent out to all participants of the challenge. Proceeds from this year's challenge went to the Alzheimer's Foundation. Next year's proceeds are going to the Humane Society. Even though I'm not thrilled with next year's fabric, I may have to do something anyway. Who knows, I might win again. That would be kind of funny I think.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Happy smocking everyone and please enter in your local fair if possible. It's so much fun and everyone that attends loves seeing all the lovely entries. If you don't want to enter, at least go see all the wonderful items displayed.</div>

I have to apologize to everyone for not being able to see my blog. I've had trouble accessing my google account. Since I was finishing up things for the fair the past 5 days, I didn't have time to fight with google to reinstate in blog page. I turned in 9 entries to the fair this afternoon and came home to fix my page. I was very frustrated to have it go down. Such are the joys of the computer lives we lead. Thanks goodness for facebook. I would have been out the loop on everything. Well, I'm back up and running again. Yay! I will have many items to share with you from the fair Friday. Hopefully with ribbons hanging on everyone of them!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Until then, happy smocking everyone!</div>

Another entry for the fair is done. I got the pattern from SB issue 102. It has tropical fish on the cover. Since stacked cables are not my fave smocking to do, I chose to download the free goldfish design from Kathy Dykstra. It's on the Martha Pullen website. You can use any pattern for a sundress. This one is a halter dress and is shirred in the back with three rows of 1/4" elastic.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br />I used a M'Liss print from Hancock Fabrics. It's from the "Josie's Aquarium" group; perfect for this dress! I used the instructions for a size 5/6. I thought the fish needed to have bubbles coming out of her mouth, so I added some pearls in graduated sizes.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br />Here's a shot with the goldfish out of the bowl. In the SB article, they used clear plastic for the fishbowl. I chose to use organza. I wanted the dress to be easy care. For the little goldfish, there was a print of underwater fish fabric, also from Hancock Fabrics. I cut out two fishies, used iron-on interfacing, zigzagged around eat fish, trimmed them and then hand-stitched them together with a blanket stitch. I used a pen to stuff polyfill into my little goldfish. The pocket is a little skued, but still really cute!<br />Now before I can dye the fabric for a jacket to go with another dress, I need to go by more tea. I drank the last of it this morning stitching up the goldfish. Well, I better get a move on or I will never get finished!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Happy smocking!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For the smock plate I used AS&E issue 87 "Summer Blooms". For the dress pattern, use any you like. You can interchange sleeves and collars on all AS&E pattern. Just find the size you want. I've used this same smock plate before. I changed the bullion daisies in the original plate to button flowers.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
If you want to add a hem band at the bottom of a dress, this is all you do. Subtract the amount for the hem and any extra you use for growth tucks. I usually use a 9" strip cut the width of the fabric for front and back. So make sure you have 1/2 yd extra fabric for the band. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The ricrac you see peaking out on the belt and collar pieces was hand-stitched on through the points. I used baby ricrac, so it had to be hand-stitched. A little time consuming, but I'm hoping to edge out the competition with a little something extra.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I was planning on using some yellow daisy buttons. But since I chose yellow gingham for the contrast, they would have just blended in. When I went to choose red buttons, there were none to meet my standards, so I covered button forms with red cotton sateen.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'm thinking of giving this dress to my hairdresser for her granddaughter. Except I think she's in a seven now. It will fit some little girl one of these days.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I want every little girl who wears my dresses to feel as beautiful on the inside as they look on the outside. I was told as a kid that I was overweight more times than I would like to remember. I think to a child that means you are less deserving of love than a thin child. I still fight with body issues. But helping a little girl feel pretty is a way to help me fight against those who would treat a child less than they deserve. Now days I'm much more stubborn and vocal with those who would heap emotional and mental abuse on another who can't defend themselves. If a child is shy (like I was) it's almost beyond them to be able to fight back. Okay, I'm done with my bandwagon speech for now.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I found out a few days ago that our state fair is starting a week early this year. Yikes! Turn in day is a week from this coming Tuesday. Now I usually take the week before the fair starts as vacation to finish up all the stuff I'm making. But since I didn't pay very close attention, I took off the week of the fair. Phooey! My dad asked me what I was going to do. I said I would just have to sew faster.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I have the next 3 days off work, so sewing it will be. I'm hoping to get a sundress finished. I'm using the fish dress from the cover of the current SB (sew beautiful) magazine for my pattern. I also have a dress that just needs to have sleeves and buttonholes made. I'm also in the middle of smocking a dress front for the "Party Dress" category. Already have finished a jumper, bishop blouse and a dress that needs a jacket and bloomers for the ensemble I'm entering. I've never cut it this close on my entries. Course that's what happens when you don't pay close attention. Let's keep our fingers crossed that I get everything done that I planned!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Happy smocking everyone!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
What a year this has been for me!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I counted up all the outfits I have sewn up and I made 37!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I tested a pattern for Ellie Inspired and Laura is working on more for me to test!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
One of my dresses was in the letters to the editor at AS&E.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I won "Curator's Choice" in the Hoffman Challenge.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Taking stock once a year helps me see that I've accomplished lots. Almost one every 10 days.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I talk alot about making "princess clothes" for little girls. With all the yucky this world has, I love to help a girl start on the road to "I am beautiful". So many woman do not feel good about themselves. I hope that my sewing for a little girl and her feeling good about herself can start a lifetime of that. Sometimes, it only takes one person to take an interest in a little person. So every girl should feel like a princess and every woman should feel like a queen at some point in their life. So all you ladies, here's a tiara for you to wear. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpoaUCXg7pnLhwHlbyy4isCMUL8k369y-jPqXDTMZnkuqpivi5BQGmrnpXP1J3m07fH0Ymj0icNf3NUIV_1MkQtd1pUSxbyPpB2nsNoIQ6gfq8jbts7jshyphenhyphennCcX1pOot1HMqqoBZnJLzfb/s1600/tiara.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpoaUCXg7pnLhwHlbyy4isCMUL8k369y-jPqXDTMZnkuqpivi5BQGmrnpXP1J3m07fH0Ymj0icNf3NUIV_1MkQtd1pUSxbyPpB2nsNoIQ6gfq8jbts7jshyphenhyphennCcX1pOot1HMqqoBZnJLzfb/s1600/tiara.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Celebrate yourself and your accomplishments! Even if they are very small ones. A bunch of little ones can add up to something big. Don't downplay yourself or let anyone else make you feel less than you deserve!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I want to thank everyone who posted a comment about the challenge dress, you are all wonderful, wonderful queens!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Happy smocking!</div>

Hey Everyone, my dress for the Hoffman Challenge won "Curator's Choice". I prize is fabric. Yah, I know, that's such a hardship for a fabric lover!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I won't know if my dress was chosen for the traveling exhibit for a few more weeks, but I'm flying high right now that my dress actually won a prize! So I'm tooting my own horn. If you win something, celebrate it!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
I hope the dress gets to go on tour. Since it was made using "Alice Blue" from Ellie Inspired, that would be great for Laura's business.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm still working on my back-to-school dress for the fair. It's kind of slow going since I usually only sit at the sewing machine on my days off, which are Sundays and Mondays. I'm currently working on the hem border.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Happy smocking and congrats to me!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's what I've spent the last couple hours on today. I hand-stitched the ricrac on the collar pieces. I'm thinking I need to also add some to the belt, sleeve binding and skirt border. Just have to see what emerges in the following week. I'll post the issue of AS&E with the finished dress.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Last night at 9 pm I get a phone call from one of the girls from work. She's in panic/stress mode. She was working on a skirt for her adult niece. All the measurements were taken in the correct place of the body. But the niece was planning on wearing the skirt down around her hips. So of course, it didn't fit. My friend was fit to be tied, so I said I'd be over in a few minutes. After getting to her house, she asks if I would finish it for her, because she can't even look at it anymore she's so stressed. I said yes, of course I'll help you out. Only took a few hours to finish stitching up.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I do have a complaint. Not about my friend, but what's up with girls wanting to wear everything at the hips now days?! I just don't understand it. I suppose that's because I'm not built that way. I need to have skirts/pants/dresses sit at my waist. And these girls who have wear things too tight and get a muffin top along with their low rise pants?! What's attractive about that? I suppose it goes back to women should dress like women, not men. And little girls should dress like what they are . . . . little girls, not young teenagers.</div>

This is a neighbor's kitty. He's been visiting us alot in the past 6 mos. We are loving to him and the owners are not nice to him. So he comes to see us 3 to 4 times a day. He's a very talkative kitty and after loosing our kitty last November, I think we needed him as much as he needed us. We buy food and treats for him and pet him as much as he wants. As you can see, he even comes in our house. I don't understand how the owners can be anything but nice to this kitty. He's the sweetest cat!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" dir="rtl" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Well, here's the finished dress I promised everyone. I first saw a similar dress on Pinterest. A wonderful place for inspiration! Although, I have to say, I don't know if I need help in the inspiration dept. I think I have more than enough plans for dresses in my head. But what the heck, you can never have enough inspiration! This was the first time I've tried folding the fabric over before putting through the pleater. Don't know if I will ever do that again. Not saying it doesn't make a lovely ruffle at the top and I do LOVE ruffles! But having the that part folded over does make it bulky and a little hard to go thru the pleater. I think I should have put some French Fuze on the back of part of the piece of fabric. Well, live and learn! This was kind of an experiment to see if I could copy a dress. Another problem I had was the top of the ruffle wanting to poof out, so after sewing the insert into the dress, I went back and stitched yellow hand-quilting thread back thru the pleats on the back to keep the smocking from stretching out. I'm a much happier person now.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidMwndhahZ9xX_stP7I4_WKmiN0I8MAcDhYa7uerkJa0U1cAGzKRnag-YKl8Wvc8WahSa1fMOXgXl2c4eRIe-qQm-fMNxVgz0UGazHa5ItBmU3HwQMJBaZ1zGNuWEuS9Mu7ZHYFY9JDJoM/s1600/yellow+dress.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidMwndhahZ9xX_stP7I4_WKmiN0I8MAcDhYa7uerkJa0U1cAGzKRnag-YKl8Wvc8WahSa1fMOXgXl2c4eRIe-qQm-fMNxVgz0UGazHa5ItBmU3HwQMJBaZ1zGNuWEuS9Mu7ZHYFY9JDJoM/s400/yellow+dress.jpg" width="238" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's the original dress I saw on Pinterest. I'm sure you can see why I couldn't resist! I used McCalls 6020 and made a size 7. I had barely enough fabric to make a 2 inch hem. I usually like to do 4 inch hems, but sometimes you have to compromise a little. My hairdresser's granddaughter will love it!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcTQnAPGTeN47QlBXviiPn73dAD6_R4rnbdGBTuaE6-cX_-Yh63uezbG01QW5CZyWMrxvq7LGlwh6CUJUBMxHbbaBTksgpcor63lMzYkx6ScG6WEDoSx3-iLWcBvZSm2vK6-iWPHnRSLJG/s1600/100_1191.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcTQnAPGTeN47QlBXviiPn73dAD6_R4rnbdGBTuaE6-cX_-Yh63uezbG01QW5CZyWMrxvq7LGlwh6CUJUBMxHbbaBTksgpcor63lMzYkx6ScG6WEDoSx3-iLWcBvZSm2vK6-iWPHnRSLJG/s320/100_1191.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
As you can see, I added bling. I was thinking to add a white sash like my inspiration dress, but when I put white up it . . . . YUCK! Fuchsia it was. So the hunt through the fabric store began. I tried ribbon, but we didn't have any at my Hancocks, but not a ribbon of the correct color was to be found. I saw this perfect colored taffeta and didn't care it is a stretch taffeta either. I figured "why look any longer when I found the perfect one". Oh, I used some fabric from the garage sale I went a few weeks ago to make the piping and covered buttons. Matches perfectly!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAQFtE5FocHGsQKPjUju2MCM_c2ETF8T9rbrONr4fXmLb4phh47DY33SfLiHvGq0PJer1iFyQ5hA0sYNMqOiqh_pR1DRZvpHe49TxROEpBGWIs6YHvl0hOglhrLjgnrV6dy23GazeGYBWe/s1600/100_1194.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAQFtE5FocHGsQKPjUju2MCM_c2ETF8T9rbrONr4fXmLb4phh47DY33SfLiHvGq0PJer1iFyQ5hA0sYNMqOiqh_pR1DRZvpHe49TxROEpBGWIs6YHvl0hOglhrLjgnrV6dy23GazeGYBWe/s320/100_1194.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I think I need to add another sash keeper to make the bow stay put. Either or the next time I make a similar dress, make it so I have taffeta in front and organza in the back. You get a nice poofy bow w/o a huge knot in the middle of a princess' back. But I have to remind myself this was an experiment to begin with. I wanted to see if I could make a copy and I think it was a success!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then next think I started smocking is one that is bargello smocking. Never done any of that, but I always wanted to try that, so here goes. Well, I think I've talked your ears off enough for this post. Happy smocking everyone!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I sent off my finished dress for the Hoffman Challenge today. I have to say; I'm not a very patient person. I won't know anything til the end of August on how I did or if I won, which is kind of frustrating. It's definitely worse than waiting to see what ribbons I get when going to the fair. I just heaved a giant sigh. Let the waiting begin.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Sorry this pic is on the blurry side. Must have got too close. Anyway, I asked Laura over at Ellie Inspired if I could use her pattern "Alice Blue" for the contest; she was so gracious and said yes of course. If this dress wins, that will be a big coup for her patterns!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgB-aV4WlkqULYhq8O_ILMnA-FFxZvwRLDzNAaBhVb_E8AfM5qWffxsw9_0agKC9qWbc1ofOaz_67c6ZlKBA1qkaW2Aock89aXN7G4FYLKvmnDsKR-Ty37zXSLveejfa_pSKbB2VYIalXsi/s1600/100_1185.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgB-aV4WlkqULYhq8O_ILMnA-FFxZvwRLDzNAaBhVb_E8AfM5qWffxsw9_0agKC9qWbc1ofOaz_67c6ZlKBA1qkaW2Aock89aXN7G4FYLKvmnDsKR-Ty37zXSLveejfa_pSKbB2VYIalXsi/s320/100_1185.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I had a hard time picking out the buttons, I'm such a perfectionist sometimes. But especially for this dress! Since they are iridescent, they pick up all the colors of the dress. I did change from ties to a belt for this dress. That didn't come in the "Alice Blue" pattern, but I think it looks nice with the belt and little princesses don't have a ouch in the middle of their back wearing a belt. After all, when you make princess dress, you want the princess to be comfortable wearing it. I made a size 5. Don't have anyone in particular to give it to, but I may want to hang on to this dress for awhile and enjoy it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

I have another dress to share with you tomorrow. I just need to finish the hem and sew a sash for it. It's it fuchsia and yellow. I saw it on Pinterest and was so taken with it, I just had to stitch it up. Of course I think mine is better, cuz mine has bling on it! The original was hanging in a shop window. Now to get busy with the rest of the fair sewing. Turn in day is August 21, not very much time.</div>
